Being Thankful vs. Asking: The Power of Gratitude for Achieving Your Goals

A few years ago, while advising a family for a public event, they told me an inspiring story about how the father of the family had achieved professional success. Despite starting with few resources, he managed to build a major company thanks to his perseverance and dedication.

What impacted me most was his advice: "Ale, if you want to achieve your goals, grow your business, and reach your objectives, you have to give thanks even before you achieve them, avoid asking for them. Give thanks to the Universe, to God, to the Higher Being, or whoever your motivating force is and in whom you believe. If you always give thanks, you will realize how things will materialize."

To ask or to thank?

It's common to hear people asking for a raise, a job, or favorable results. However, I believe the energy of gratitude is more powerful than the one of the request. When we give thanks for something we visualize that we are already enjoying, we open a channel of energy that facilitates things happening.

Gratitude as responsibility and commitment

By asking, we transfer responsibility to others. By giving thanks, we assume the responsibility of connecting with our inner energy and making things happen.

There are meditations and practices based on gratitude to generate abundance. By reprogramming our thoughts, we can achieve our purposes and live in the present, avoiding the anguish and anxiety of the future.

Living in the present

Three people talking

Living on autopilot leads us to react to situations and emotions of others. In contrast, living in the present allows us to be aware of our emotions and the impact we have on others. To give thanks is to live in the present, acting from what we have and not from lack.

End of the year: a time to give thanks

As we approach the end of this year full of challenges and learning, it's a good time to give thanks with an intention focused on the present and generate new experiences.

Let's stop asking and start giving thanks.
